The Town of Yorktown was looking for a solution to effectively lift their mixer out of their anaerobic digester tank which stands almost 30’ above the ground. They wanted a hoist that could handle lifting the mixer out of the tank, as well rotate and drop it into the back of a truck without having to set the mixer down to re-position the hoist. Grant Kissel with the BBC Pump & Equipment Municipal team showed Yorktown a solution to their problem: The Thern 5PT30 series davit crane with a 3,000 lbs capacity, and over 9ft of reach.
The customer was adamant that they did not want to manually crank the mixer out of the tank. The solutions was a 115v electric winch with a 6’ pendant control for easy operation. We mounted the 24” x 24” pedestal on top of the 18′ wide tank, and make sure that this hoist was going to hold up over the long haul, so we made a custom mounting plate that would extend over the small platform that we could secure into the wall using some stainless steel angle iron brackets. We mounted the front 2 holes of the baseplate into the top concrete wall with Hilti anchors and then ran 5/8” stainless steel all-thread through the entire tank wall to secure our stainless angle mounts.
BBC Pump is proud to say that Yorktown is extremely happy with the hoist and its ease of operation, as well as the peace of mind that using the new Thern hoist will be much safer and cheaper than renting a crane to pull their mixer when they need to service it.
